October was an exciting month at Glendale Christian Church as we celebrated 50 years! God was very gracious to fill the weeks with many blessings. Everyone enjoyed special guests Don Vernon, B. A. Austin and Sid Allsbury, some of the former ministers at Glendale, as we spent time looking back, looking in and looking up.
The month-long celebration concluded with one service on October 28 that was amazing! We witnessed a husband being baptized, and then that husband turned around and baptized his wife. Praise the Lord! Incredible things happen when the church comes together as one body to truly live out Ephesians 4:1-3, to “live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” It was a great reminder that the church needs to look forward to pass on the kingdom to the next generation.
At the end of the one service, we had a carry-in meal and there was lots of delicious food and fellowship. After the meal, the kids went outside to play in the bouncy house and have snacks. As I stood at the bouncy house door while the kids jumped, I saw a black suburban pull into the lot. The doors opened and out climbed three kids, followed by a mother. The kids went straight to the snow cone and popcorn machines. The mother finally persuaded them into the church building, where I was told they made plates of food and sat down to eat. I met the kids soon after when they were in line for the bouncy house. I was anxious to talk to the mom, but knew others welcomed her inside. When I finally had the chance to visit with her, I thanked her for coming. We talked about the preschool, I gave her a bulletin with our upcoming events and an invitation to come back to church.
The day was amazing! We enjoyed one service and one dinner, two baptisms, three unexpected kids in the bouncy house and lots of visitors, fellowship and ministry! The entire day was the vision of our church in action: Loving People, Loving Jesus. We are a family of believers from all walks of life who love to help people know Jesus personally.
Happy birthday, Glendale Christian Church!
