Fear for Joy

Nov 30, 2025    Andrew Kirschner

What if the fear we carry about judgment is exactly what God wants to exchange for joy? In Luke 2, the angels tell the terrified shepherds, “Do not be afraid,” and then announce great joy—revealing God’s desire to free us from fear, not trap us in it. Scripture shows our transformation from fear-driven obedience to loving obedience as God’s children. Romans 8 reminds us we have received the Spirit of adoption, not slavery to fear. Because Jesus has already taken our punishment, there is nothing left to fear. This Christmas, we are invited to live in the joy of God’s presence, sealed by the Holy Spirit, as beloved children and co-heirs with Christ.
